You and your movers or delivery company are required to use the elevator blankets when moving in or out of your apartment or moving large items of furniture. The blankets protect the lifts from accidental damage. The blankets are stored in the storeroom (access from the West lobby, next the to the lift - fob access required). They hang on the wall to the left of the staircase down to the storeroom and a ladder is provided for getting them down and installing them in the elevator. Each lift elevator has instructions showing how to install the blankets. When you have finished with your move in or out the Dakota, it is your responsibility to return the blankets to the wall of the storeroom where you found them. If you use contractors or movers, it is your responsibiity to ensure they have returned the blankets properly and neatly.
iiNet is a common choice because they know how to connect to the building phone wiring, and their local technician is very efficient. They connect the internet through your phone line and you connect your modem to the phone jack. Some residents have had trouble with their support in getting an upgrade to very high speeds. You can reach iiNet sales on 13 19 17, or support and billling on 13 22 58. You will not receive fibre to your unit - fibre comes to the building and a telephone or cable wire connects to your apartment.
Telstra can install internet through the cable TV connection that is available outside your apartment door. You would connect your router to this cable wire.
Wireless providers like Optus can provide 5G internet through a small modem that you plug in in your apartment with no wire connection. Speeds are good, but vary through the day. The placement of the wireless modem is critical and tech support may be required to direct your modem to "look" at a specific wireless tower.
When you move into the Dakota you are free to transfer your energy providers to your new address or to choose new gas and electricity providers. Water is heated by communal gas heaters on the top of in the building. You are billed for gas based on your volume (litres) of hot water plus of the volume of gas for other gas appliances, if any. These are measured in your apartment. The meter for your electricity useage is in a locked cupboard on your floor. The meterman has the key to that cupboard.
